“Traveling is a privilege and therefore we are able to positively change our behaviour towards it.”

Hi and welcome! 🌿

I’m Joyce, a traveler, tourism professional, and founder of Ethical Trails. With a background in international tourism, I’ve seen firsthand how the industry often prioritizes profit over sustainability. But traveling is a privilege, and with that privilege comes the opportunity to do better.

Here, I share stories, reflections, and resources to help shift how we explore the world: more slowly, more consciously, and with respect for people & planet.

✨ Inspiring responsible adventures

One year ago around this time, I left on a last-minute trip to Colombia as a guide for @munderotravel 🇨🇴

One of the best impulsive decisions I've ever made. ❤️ Hiking, chilling, eating, dancing... all in full force with an amazing group of strangers who soon became friends.

Some trips you plan for months. Others you just say yes to. Our time in Colombia taught me that the second kind might just be the best kind.

Now, a few days out from doing it all again: this time a last-minute adventure to Morocco. On my bucket list since forever, and I could not be more ready to find out what this destination has in store for us. 👀
Inspired by @jet_lag_chaser we spent two days on the Eislek Trail. 40 kilometers of endless gossip (🤭), and most importantly: good views. 💚

Yay for micro adventures close to home!

Day two felt completely different, though.

We could actually smell and see the smoke from the fires over in the High Fens. Walking through that haze really landed a heavy reality check, leaving us also with a heavy heart. 💔

It’s a sobering reminder of how fast things can turn. Nature gives us so much space to unplug, the absolute least we can do is protect it. 🌳

Please continue to practice Leave No Trace out there: pack out what you bring in, skip the open fires, and stay responsible. 🫶
Strangers on Friday, biking buddies by Sunday. 🚲

That's the magic of the Velo Tour Festival: three days of biking, open roads and camping with the kind of people that make you want to do it all over again. 💚

@welcometomygarden_org thank you for this wonderful weekend, for the contagious enthusiasm, and for making slow travel accessible for everyone. 🏕

Throwback to my first wild-camping adventure in France last june. 🥾

The Chartreuse really stunned me: every view, every climb, every (quiet) moment. ⛰️

Thanks to the solid guidance of @hikingadvisorbelgium I made it through the 6-day trek feeling proud and grateful. 💪
El Tigre Waterfalls, Monteverde 🇨🇷 An easy-to-access, adventurous 7.5 km loop through Costa Rica’s cloud forest. 💧

Expect lush greenery, hanging bridges & four stunning waterfalls. We hiked it in 2.5 hours, with plenty of stops along the way.

Can only recommend it if you’re headed to Monteverde. 💚
